Qin Long was born in Chengdu, Sichuan province in 1939. In 1947 he became well-known in China for his performance in the film 'Spring River Flowing East'. He retired from the Peoples Literature Publishing House of China in 1999. After being educated for more than twenty years, Qin Long finally finished his study at the China Central Fine Art Academy in 1969.
His extensive training in Chinese and Western artistic traditions combined with the range of his artistic ideas has given Qin Long uncommon versatility as an artist. Because of his widely interest in various kinds of art, from film, music, literature to painting, he developed his own style, which made him a recognized master of heavy color painting. His works are welcomed by Chinese as well as western collectors. Except creating heavy color art works, Qin Long composed many posters and illustration pictures for magazines and fairy tale books. He has made enormous artworks for important buildings such as the Beijing Chairman Mao Memory Hall (1977) and the Grand Hotel in Beijing (1974). In 1994, he was invited by the world famous master Chen Yifei to cooperate in the making of a grand art work, but failed because of the sudden death of Chen Yifei.
In Qin Long' works he carefully blends together classical themes, both Eastern and Western, which he has so thoroughly studied. Ancient oriental legends are often subjected in Qin Long' work, by which he skilfully uses the color style of the 19th century European symbolism art. His work leaves viewers plenty of space for imagination.
