Zhang Pei

Zhang Pei was born in Renshou, Sichuan province. He graduated from the Oil Department of the Sichuan Academy of Fine Arts, Chongqing Province, and was teaching at the Leshan Normal College and the Chengdu Officer and Worker University for several years. Now he works and lives in Chengdu, Sichuan Province.

Zhang Pei, whose commentaries on modern Chinese society have been powerfully conveyed in his oil paintings, passed his childhood days at the time of China 'reform and open policy'. In his works, Zhang Pei expresses the current social values in China, which are highly influenced by the economical developments. He creates black and white paintings which are based on the Chinese traditional water-ink colors.
